The Glasgow Burgerthon - Part 2

10:20:00

I told you I wasn't finished with The Burgerthon just yet! After writing about what we're doing and how the competition is shaping up so far (read it here!), I'll give you a quick update on the second batch of challengers so far.

Meat Bar Glasgow 142 W Regent St
After finding out original stop 4 Jacker de Viande had closed down, a quick bit of improvisation led is to Meat Bar instead so we could continue our quest for Glasgow's best burger. Having Just missed out on the shortlist anyway, Meat Bar seemed like a good substitution
As the name suggests, Meat Bar is not all about burgers, with a wide range of steaks and smoked meats to please any appetite. In a strange twist, they also offered meat-infused cocktails, neither of us got to try them but they certainly sounded interesting!

He had: Haggis Bon Bons, Grinder burger (Paprika dusted patty, chorizo and manchego cheese), fries
She had: Ham & Chorizo Croquettes, Classic burger with Cheese, Swine Fries (pulled pork, chipotle sour cream, red onions, peppers and jalapeños).

Much like a few of the previous locations, the burgers were flavoursome but they did lean more towards the dry side, which isn't ideal when we both prefer juicy burgers.
With the burgers not being the cheapest to start with, we were a little bit disappointed that the fries were additional and also came at a higher than usual price of £4 and £6 each.
Overall we did enjoy stop 4 on our tour with atmosphere and service being great, however, the cost relative to the portion sizes was an issue for both of us.
He thought: Quality of burger 3, Variety available 4, Atmosphere & service 3.5, Value for money 2.5

Ketchup Westend 46 Ashton Lane
With one of the larger menus on the Glasgow Burgerthon, there was no doubt we would both be able to find something we would be keen to indulge in! We both opted for a burger from the chicken selection of burgers but replaced it with a beef patty instead.

He had: Flying Scotsman (topped with Haggis, Bacon and Peppercorn sauce), fries
She had: Italian Job (topped with aliolo, sweet peppers, parmesan and Napoli sauce), fries
We Shared : Mozzarella Balls

Sides were pretty standard with some normal fries each and a portion of mozzarella balls to share. Charlotte enjoyed the mozzarella balls with a lighter batter rather than breaded, however, I wasn't a massive fan of them.
The burgers themselves were nice, but we both thought they were a bit too big for the size of the bun and again, a bit dry for our liking. With both of us having burgers that sounded amazing, they didn't quite live up to the expectations or potential they could have. With good value for money and great staff, it is a great experience and good burger, but we both thought it wouldn't be contending for Glasgow's best.

Bread Meats Bread 104 St Vincent St
Located in Glasgow's Burger hub on St Vincent Street, Bread Meats Bread was an ideal stop for another instalment of the burgerthon before heading to the cinema. Prior to our visit, we both expected this to be a contended for the best, and once we left we weren't surprised with how much we
enjoyed it.
With a slight 15 minute wait, which you can always expect here, but this didn't bother either of us at all. However, unlike previous visits, the speed of the service was slower than usual. We had to wait a good bit longer than expected at each stage of the meal and had to remind them several times about a drinks order. It could be forgiven and put down to a busy night, but we both felt they should probably be used to this by now.

He had: 4x4 Cali Burger (4 burgers stacked up), fries
She had: Cheeseburger, fries.
Other than the slight issues with the service, the rest of the meal was incredible. The thing that had been missing in previous stops was not an issue here, with the burgers being both full of flavour AND juicy.Having taken on and defeated the Cali burger before, I attempted to achieve this once more. But alas, I was defeated. We made our usual mistake of ordering a portion of fries each, which left us both stuffed and at risk of having meat sweats and falling asleep in the cinema!
