The Next Storm - My 2016 so far | Wasted Little PJ Scottish Male Lifestyle Blog

In my last post I was looking back at what I’ve been up to in the past 9 months, so for this one, I thought I’d look forward at what I’d like to achieve by this time next year.

Get a Job I love
To be honest, I’ve been feeling a bit deflated about my work at the moment. There's been some stuff going on that hasn’t been making me enjoy it and I’ve been looking for jobs that might get me more motivation. I mentioned in my last post that my final year at uni I had been thinking what industry I’d like to move into after I graduated, and I’ve decided I want to move into digital marketing. Marketing was always something I’d had an interest in and working in the digital era with this is something I definitely want to move into. Within the next year, I'd like to see myself having a digital marketing role of some description and really enjoying what I’m doing.

Digital Marketing qualification or courses.
I only decided recently that this is where I’d like my career to be headed, so I’m at a bit of a disadvantage with those who have had this in mind for a few years and now have experience in this industry. As part of this, I’m lacking in the skills and experience needed to land my dream role. I decided that what I need to do is make it happen for myself and try to get my skills from somewhere. Over the past few months, I’ve been doing the Google Digital Garage training and more recently have been working towards the Shaw Academy's Diploma in Digital Marketing. The courses so far have been great and I’m enjoying seeing what happens in the background of things that we all do every day. There’s also a couple of part time course that I’m considering at City of Glasgow College which seems like great options to learn more. I’m hoping that these courses I’ll start to bridge the gap between me and the jobs I want.

Maintain my Blog
I’m pretty new to blogging, but over the past few weeks I’ve enjoyed the experience that I’ve had and the interactions I’ve had with people. It’s early days yet but it’s a new experience I’m looking forward to focussing on and who knows, it might even help me achieve goal 1!

Health Kick
I’m sure I’m the first person to ever come up with this goal, right?
During the last few months of 4th year where I was going from work to the library to my bed. Then once I finished I was going to the pub. Lots. As part of that, I've not been doing as much exercise as I should and it’s something I definitely need to get back into soon.  Charlotte’s been trying to get me to join the gym and PT she goes to and I’m not going to lie, it’s starting to wear off on me and I think I will. How I hate it when she’s right.

Anyway, it wasn't the most exciting of posts, but there you go, that’s my goals for the next 12 months! I’m sure I’ll end up adding a few more as the year goes on and I’ll be sure to post about how I’m getting on.

Do you have goals for the next year? What’s your plans? Leave a comment and let me know!

  1. You're more right than you know on the blog/job thing pal, if it's digital marketing that you see your future in then I can't think of a better thing to do in your spare time than work on a blog - and market it through social media.

Thanks for the digital garage link, I'd love to have something relatively formal to back up my self-taught social media stuff so I'm definitely checking that one out!

    1. I'd recommend it! Some of it is pretty basic but it's good to get anything a bit extra! The topics are quite short so it's easy to get a few completed when you have spare time!
