The Hope Glasgow Review

14:00:00

I walk by The Hope Bar & Restaurant every day I'm going to work and it's always looked like a great wee pub, but I'd heard some good words about the food as well. So when Charlotte told me she had the chance to review it, I was chomping at the bit to go! After spending a chilled out afternoon wandering around the shops and grabbing a drink in Bread+Butter (which you should also check out btw!) we headed over for some food and were HOPE-ful (see what I did?) it would do the job!

With a long bar that runs near enough the length of the bottom area and a vast range of beers, wines and spirits on offer you'll be sure to find something to quench your thirst! For me, it's too early to be getting into the Christmas feels, but this would be a great spot to head for some warmth and a drink after a day of shopping especially if your train leaves from Glasgow Central, which is only a 30-second walk from the bar. Ideal.
We had a table booked for 6PM and we arrived a little bit premature at 6.45. This was no problem for our server Colin, who was absolutely incredible for the duration of the meal and seated us at our table which was already set p and ready to go. Nestled in the corner of the restaurant area with a stunning light above, we had a great view of the restaurant and more importantly, a great view of the kitchen.

After having a drink and looking through the menu we had both finally decided and ready to order. To start I opted for the Glazed chicken drumsticks with sesame seeds and rocket, and Charlotte decided to go for a ham hock terrine with confit onion chutney & toasted ciabatta. Both were amazing. The chicken was so tasty and tender, hardly any effort was needed for it to fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. They definitely put is in the mood for our mains.

As usual and not a surprise to anyone really, I tucked into a cheese and bacon burger with chips, while Charlotte decided to go for a sun blaze pesto linguine. The burger was full of flavor, a little bit dry at points but the flavor certainly made up for that. Other than my dads twice cooked chips, these were some of the best I've had. So crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, I was gutted I got too full and couldn't finish them off.

I didn't try the linguine as I'm not a massive fan of pesto, but there was very little left on Charlotte's plate, which I think speaks for itself.
Although I was defeated, Charlotte couldn't help herself for getting a desert and ordered the caramel chocolate  brownie which came with a flapjack base and vanilla ice cream. Oh. My. God. I definitely couldn't stomach one after the previous 2 courses but I had a taste of it and it was great. It was really rich and chocolaty, which paired excellently with the ice cream.

With very reasonably priced food and drinks, selected cocktails from £4.50 Sunday - Thursday, and WEST St Mungo on draught, I would definitely be coming back here soon. I'd never noticed any of their great offers when I'd walked by like 2 courses for £10 or 3 for £12, and a really reasonably priced lunch menu. With it, only 2 minutes from my office I may have found a new spot to treat myself for lunch!
I really couldn't speak much higher of the staff, the service or the food, and would definitely recommend it for a quick drink or a quiet meal after a day of shopping.
